The Episcopal Church and Visual Arts announces a new chapter and a Texas kick-off-October 6th.
The newly formed Texas diocesan chapter of the Episcopal Church and the Visual Arts (ECVA) will have a kick-off event Saturday, October 6, at St. Peter's Church in Brenham, Texas.
The ECVA was formulated in 2000. The Texas chapter is the eighth chapter to be listed on the ECVA which states that the mission of ECVA is to encourage artists, individuals, congregations, and scholars to engage the visual arts in the spiritual life of the church. ECVA values the significance of visual imagery in spiritual formation and the development of faith, and creates programs to support those who are engaged in using the visual arts in spiritual life.
The opening reception for this event will begin at 11:00 am. with closing remarks scheduled at 2:30. It is a free event and box lunches will be provided. Please RSVP to Grace Tice at 281.488.6263.

Wendy Wimberly—Painter and wife of Bishop Wimberly

Donna Shasteen—Painter

Donna's art encompasses a diversity of mediums including acrylic, mixed media and fiber. In seeking visual expressions of faith and Donna says, "I have been involved in visual art throughout my life: art classes, dance classes, dance performances. After receiving a BA in dance I taught dance and did commission work in choreography. While working in the corporate world I explored other means of artistic expression in addition to work in graphic design. And my involvement in Christian Education has provided both inspiration and challenge in my striving to give visual expression to God's saving grace in my life and in the world."
Bill Bennett—Photographer

The Rev. Bill Bennett, is a photographer. Bill says on his website, "In my photos of people, places, nature, and moments in time, I attempt to bring creativity and spirituality together, hoping to see what is, and what might be as expressions of the creator God who lives within me. I invite you into the journey through my lens on the world."
Bill's website has some wonderful quotations for meditation while viewing some beautiful visual images captured through his lens.
Delda Skinner—Painter and teacher

Delda serves on the board of the Society of Layerists in MultiMedia and is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and the National Collage Society. Her paintings have been published in 14 art books and an article she wrote, “Spiritual Essence of Art,” appears in Bridging Time and Space – Essays on Layered Art. As an Instructor in Pastoral Ministry at Seminary of the Southwest, she teaches a course which she designed "Art and Soul: the Dialogue of Faith".
Bridgette Mongeon—Sculptor, Writer, public speaker

Bridgette specializes in portrait commission sculpture in bronze, her favorite subject being children. She also creates many posthumous sculptures and has been documenting the process for a book titled, “Bringing to Life the Spirit of the Deceased—A Sculptor’s Journey.”
She writes for national magazines on the subjects that interest her most—psychology, faith, gardening, and has several children’s books that she is hoping to publish. Her business articles, gleaned from her workshops on marketing for those working in the arts are published in national magazines. Ms. Mongeon is also the originator of the God’s Word Collectable gift series sold through the Internet.
