My name is Bridgette Mongeon, and this is my web site and forum. I hope to meet everyone from ECVA soon, but I thought this might be a great place to see each other’s work and to chat, after all Texas is a huge place!
FINE ART WORK
You can see my fine art work here on this web site. All of my work is through commission. I specialize in sculpting people and children are my favorite. I do however receive a tremendous amount of commissions for deceased loved ones.
WRITING
I am just completing a book on the subject titled "Bringing to Life the Spirit of the Deceased-A Sculptor's Journey” It has been a difficult book to market. It is a book that describes the process, but it is not an art book. Much of the book talks about my own struggle with spiritual gifts. Here is a recent description-
"The most fascinating part of the book is the journey through the artist’s own emotions. Sparked by her love of science and her need to understand herself and others, Ms. Mongeon poured through journal articles to find reasons for the unusual circumstances surrounding emotion and her art. The research helped her come to terms with what others thought to be psychic abilities, but she describes as the annoyance of “catching emotion” from others. You could say that she discovered the science behind the psychic. Bringing to Life... was created from her Vermont College Union Institute and University undergraduate thesis where she cites the works of others who have studied emotion such as; psychologist Paul Ekman and his facial action coding system, Neuroscientist Marco Icoboni in his work with mirror neurons, Professor Elaine Hatfield’s work found in her research for her book “Emotional contagion”, Dr. Elaine Aron’s work on the highly sensitive person, Professor Antonio Damasio’s study on The Feeling Brain, and others. I think you will find her research quite intriguing...”
I don't mean to bore you. I am quite excited about the book and the science behind what I have lived through. It has taken a long journey to reveal what has come out. I'm praying for favor with a publisher while wading through the rejections!
I'm also a writer for a couple of art magazines and a contributing writer on a few other books. I am also working on several children's books, once again searching for publishers. The Christian book market is even harder to break into than the secular market.
Finally I have a line of gift items that I manufacture titled God’s Word they can be seen at http://www.godsword.net
We used to sell these wholesale to the bookstores, but that was much too difficult and we have decided only to sell them retail on the Internet. The shopping cart and web site on that site are about to be updated, as we are having trouble with them. We opted for first updating the fine art web site, and we have been working on this for about 5 months.
That is enough about my art...
I am a member of St Alban's Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas and have been there for 25 year, minus a year when I was worship leader at St. Mark's United Methodist Church. I play the guitar and sing in worship. I have had a strong spiritual bond since I was a child. I often think it is difficult to separate the creations from the creator. Spirituality and creativity seem to walk together.
I have two children a daughter who just graduated from Oral Roberts University and a son who just graduated from high school. My husband is also an artist.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing their work. |
